About Alyssa
Alyssa Calvano is the founder and director of Rose Dance and Movement, dedicated to helping people build confidence, coordination, creativity, and a lifelong love of movement. With over 12 years of teaching experience, Alyssa has worked with students ranging from 18 months old through adulthood in preschools, public schools, universities, dance studios, and community programs.
She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Dance from Arizona State University in 2023, where she also completed her Dance Teaching Artist Praxis Certification. Alyssa received her Bachelor of Arts in Dance in 2017 from Columbia College Chicago, where she developed a strong foundation in dance performance, choreography, pedagogy, and movement education.
Alyssa currently serves as the Dance Department Director for Combs Unified School District, where she teaches middle and high school dance, develops curriculum, choreographs, and directs the school's competitive dance company, Rush Dance Company. She is passionate about creating positive, inclusive learning environments where students of every ability can experience success through movement.
Throughout her career, Alyssa has taught a wide variety of dance and movement styles including Creative Movement, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Modern, Tap, Improvisation, Pilates, Yoga, Dance Conditioning and Jazz Funk. Her experience extends beyond traditional studio settings, having taught at universities, traveled to preschools, daycares, camps, and community programs, allowing her to meet students where they are and create meaningful learning experiences in diverse environments.
In addition to teaching, Alyssa has extensive experience as a choreographer, creating award winning works for competitive dance teams, school productions, musicals, solos, duets, trios, and large group performances. She has also served as a Guest Instructor for the Arizona Dance Education Organization (AZDEO) All-State Dance Festival, teaching Jazz technique to dancers of varying experience levels.
Alyssa performed professionally as a guest artist with Alluvion Dance Chicago, a contemporary dance company where she also served as a rehearsal director and contributed choreography for touring productions.
At the heart of Rose Dance and Movement is Alyssa's belief that movement is about so much more than dance technique. She believes movement is a powerful tool for developing physical literacy, confidence, social emotional skills, creativity, and lifelong healthy habits. Her programs are intentionally designed to support the whole human while making movement engaging, accessible, and fun.
Whether working with preschoolers discovering movement for the first time, supporting adaptive learners, teaching advanced dancers or working with Adult learners, Alyssa's mission remains the same:
"To create meaningful movement experiences that inspire confidence, encourage creativity, and help every individual discover the joy of movement."
I founded Rose Dance and Movement because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to move, explore, and build confidence in a supportive environment. My goal is to make dance and movement accessible by bringing high quality programs directly into schools and communities. I look forward to partnering with families and educators to create meaningful experiences that inspire joyful movement and lifelong learning.
